Hello friends, fans and enemies of Rompida Records,

Here is the first of  what I hope will be many e-mail updates about our sordid little world of sound art. To start things off I regretfully have to announce that the store is temporarily closed due to a broken computer. On the lighter side, we'll be getting a new one this month, probably in the next two weeks. All orders will be processed then. Now for the major announcement...those will be the final orders that I accept. When I started Rompida I was influenced by the hometaper phenomenon surrounding Hal Mcgee. For those of you who don't know, Hal is the big man on campus. he's worked with EVERYONE, such as Merzbow, Aube, Borbetomagus, Nurse With Wound, etc. In those days they traded/sold music on their own terms, how they wanted to...depending on finances, mood, etc. I was  very inspired by the whole idea and decided to try it, maybe with my own spin. I never intended to turn Rompida into a "real" label, but rather a place for underground musicians to go to make contact with others of their ilk. Somewhere down the road I lost sight of that goal. Due to a lack of time, manpower, and finances I've decided to change the whole operation. From now on I will only deal the samplers and CD's that I'm on. I will not accept any money for any of the CD's, and I will not deal in bulk. Every sampler that I send will be accompanied by a CD from the catalog picked at random. Your music will get out there. Those of you from the early days may remember that I used to do that a lot. At some point I got burnt out and just stepped back from the whole thing...those of you who I owe a sampler to I haven't forgotten you. If none of this makes sense please e-mail me and I'll try to explain it differently. Now what this means is we're all responsible for our own music. If you hear something you like off of a sampler you'll have to go straight to the artist for it. All the samplers will have contact info. The artist can deal with the customer any way they choose...you may or may not get the cd you see on the website, same or different artwork, etc. To all the artists who sent me art for your cd and you want a copy of it just let me know. If you prefer to do different things that's cool to. I hope I haven't lost any new artists who hoped they were getting on a "legit" label... and to the folks who have been on board for awhile, I hope none of you decide to leave. If you do, to show there are no hard feelings I'll continue to put your stuff out on samplers and as freebies. I've thought long and hard about this and I'm not ashamed of it. It's an experiment, and if it fails, oh well. But it's something I want to do my way, and if i'm happy with it, you should be to. I look forward to hearing from you.

     All the best...
    Jimmy
